MONTANE TAKES ON THE OSAKA CUP
Teresa Michell and
David Pryce will set sail in their Adams 10 'Montane' (nee 'Aurora') with a fleet of 20
yachts to race in the Osaka Cup, a 5500 nautical mile non-stop double handed yacht race
from Melbourne to Osaka.
The Osaka Cup has three length divisions, Class C 10-12m, Class B 12-14m and Class A
14-16m and for each length division the yachts are divided into racing or cruising
depending on the displacement and sail area of each yacht.
The Osaka Cup is an
open race with no handicap system.
Montane is competing in Racing Class C which is the most competitive division with 9 of
the 20 entries. Of the 9 entries, 7 are greater than 11.8m, 1 is 11.0m and then
there is Montane at 10m. "Even I was surprised how small Montane looks compared to
the other yachts. We wondered if we should put a sign on Montane to say 'yes we are racing
in the Osaka Cup' as so many people have asked us." Teresa and David are undeterred
by this as Montane's size belies its performance. "We still expect to have a good
race with several of the yachts in our division."
